Michel Butor.

-"Herold, a lumberjack in every drop of rose"Personal Gallery exhibition Cahiers d'Art, 1947, Andre Breton.
-"Jacques Herold has dedicated his life to overcome artist has conquered time and own way when there is now space between us. His work that will interest more and more posterity, will make it irresistible a reverse and complementary to conquer space of time. "Jacques Herold, 1995, Saran Alexandrian
Colors Art Gallery invites you to the abstract work of Cojan, from March 18 to April 8.
Cojan
A name in contemporary Romanian plastic.
Do we know enough about this man about this artist, with a long work?
He left in 1969 to exile in France. Life in Romania became suffocating for him. He preferred to lead a life of hardship, but if it was considered a free city of lights.
The home, big time, felt that escaped from the socialist system. He was labeled an enemy of the working class.
He was sentenced verbal and legal. Why? Because he wanted to return to his own country.
It was considered a criminal!
In three and a half decades of exile, censorship of all material information, marginalized and forgotten knowingly then it was normal to know very little about him.
We know something about it? But how much? Enough, really?
The life of an artist, his work is the scale step. A durable construction is difficult to built.
I was lucky to know him through the years 1964-1965 and had the privilege of being accepted by the Master.
I've missed in all those years of separation. The few information we got about it have provided me always moments of great satisfaction.
I would like to recall what has been done for Cojan and his work during this period of decades.
In 1969, while Cojan went to France, and was not a certainty that he was there and not yet received the label "runagate", held in Buzau county newspaper in the lobby "Life Buz?u" in City Hall, an exhibition comprehensive, with works from the collection of Octavian Mo?escu, former mayor of Balchik, a great lover and supporter, fine arts and artists.
The exhibition benefited from the wing Baciucu Lazarus, editor in chief, important politician in the county, which was the soul initiation camps famous sculpture from Magura.
Also in 1969, editorial in the lobby of "Art" in the center of Brasov, there was another exhibition, initiated by an intellectual high-life, Mihai Nadin, editor in chief of, encyclopedic mind, the author of monographs and Hans Eder Brasov painters.
Then the watchful eye of censorship worked.
Nothingness to litter, throwing and insidious veil. Sentenced to oblivion was sealed!
But during the time at which explains everything, has brought revolution.
Iron Curtain fell, departures began to close. Cojan began to reappear in the firmament.
In 1999, my wife and I organized an exhibition at the gallery "Counterpoint."
I called a "Thinking of Cojan" - The artist was not present, but rejoiced at the news.
Was doomed. I was still afraid to return. Success was the extent efforts.
The gallery has been made films. The press wrote. Lovers have visited. TVR's then made a movie. Maker, Mrs. Ruxandra Garofeanu, filmed in Paris, the master, who, through a trick of the controller, unaware that the camera is turned on, freely, and gave way to memories.
In 2004, we managed to do with the support of Academician Professor Razvan Theodorescu, the then Minister of Culture, a new exhibition hall of the ministry.
Great performance was the coming of Cojan from Paris, on opening, on March 3, 2004, precisely the day when it met the master 90.
In France there were several events Cojan. We note the exhibition at the Romanian Embassy to Academician Dan Haulica busy. In recent years, gallerists Alain Margaron Cojan's work was concerned. Moreover, supported the emergence of a volume, edited by Emanuel care Daydée gallerists and signed.
Margaron has good hand. Some of those who supported and has exhibited regularly in his gallery reached Pompidou.
Cojan ante Portas!
And now we have a great and pleasant surprise! A gallery exhibition in a new, beautiful and who intends to present values of the modern Romanian art, leaning instead on diaspora artists.
Gallerists seem to take chest weights, and if it proves to be and breath can become a landmark with its gallery for novelty value.

"Arthur Segal (1875-1944) was one of the leading painters of modern art and complete. Opera's life, being always in motion (four Immigration) is similar to that of other artists from Eastern Europe Hebrew modern era.
In five different stylistic phases (Neo-Impressionism, Neo-Expressionism, Equivalent Plastic Focus painting, realism), Segal sought true expression of art. "
Pavel Liska
"This stage, ranging approximately between 1900 and 1915, is best represented in Romanian heritage, so little spoiled in the works of Arthur Segal.Alaturi the 'Landscape', 'Inside the room', 'Girl with red hat' 'Railway' and 'Head of a Woman', the existing heritage of Romania National Museum of Art, to which dealt Amelia neuitare Paul know another series of six original works from private collections that can be framed the same period. We refer here to a phrase 'youth in the manner Autoportret'de expressionist, painted in 1908 and first exhibited at the Berliner Seeccession in 1909, two still lifes made everything in 1909, with an obvious inclination fova, coupled with a shiver expressionist, and the three compositions - two inside, probably of his house from a landscape Charlotenburg 'laundry to dry in the garden', undated - but certainly executed between 1910-1914 in a manner postimpresionista bill. This way of expressing the image coordinates of plastic structures and expressionist-foviste pointillist expression manages to individualize a personal breathing works of this period.
We consider the 1916 meeting with Dada movement, wanted during his exile in Switzerland, also as an increase in the Romanian spirituality, considering that happy 'triple alliance' that the artist made here, despite its sporadic nature, along with Tristan Tzara and Marcel Janco painter. In Zurich in February 1916, Segal, along with his friend Hans Arp, will decorate with more drawings for the first manifestation of Dada Cabaret Voltaire, and in December 1918, the third event of the group, he will participate again two wood carvings.
Last direct contract with Romania's Arthur Segal occurred in 1924 when our knowledge the artist is invited by one of the Commissioners first modern art exhibition organized by the European avant-garde magazine "Contimporanul '. We refer to MHMaxy painter, pioneer of Romanian avant-garde, who was Arthur Segal student for two years, between 1922-1923, in Berlin, initiated by him is one of the first and most serious affirmation of constructivism to us. He participate in this great demonstration of modern art in Europe with names such as P. Kossak, Kurt Schwitters, Hans Arp, Paul Klee, Wikink Eggeling, Constantin Brancusi, Victor Brauner, Marcel Iancu, etc.. With three works: 'Landscape', 'Seated Woman', 'Moses with a rod' - worked in oil and a engraving: 'Landscape'. "

Colors Art Gallery participated with works of art of the following artists: Jacques Herold, Victor Brauner, Jules Perahim from private collections from Romania/France.
Les artistes Roumains et l’École de Paris
The Modern Art in Romania begins with Constantin Brancusi. But the glue that has united all Romanian artists from Constantin Brancusi until Perahim, and we remember now only Victor Brauner and Jacques Herold, was one, Paris and school of Art in Paris.
All big artistic movements of the world, starting with impressionism, post-impresionism, fauvism, cubism, dadaism, surrealism, until the abstract art of our days, started in Paris.
All Romanian artists who have lived, have visited, worked, have displayed, but especially have been inspired by the atmosphere of Paris and also belong to Paris school, are presented by Colors Art Gallery.
Whether they are representatives of postimpressionism like Michel Simonidy, Dimitrie Berea, Lucian Grigorescu, Paul Scortescu or of the modern art as Constantin Brancusi, Marcel Iancu, Tristán Tzara, Victor Brauner, Jacques Herold, Gherasim Luca, Theodore Brauner, Aurel Cojan, Mircea Ciobanu, Magdalena Radulescu, Alexandru Istrati, Natalia Dumitrescu etc., all these artists were and will always be part of Paris, they will remain for eternity in the city history.

For celebrating the centenary of surrealist artist Jaques Herold, the Cantini Museum from Marsilia, presents around one hundred paintings, drawings and sculptures belonging to the artist. It’s for the first time when Herold (1910-1987) has a major retrospective exhibition in a French museum. The exhibition follows the artists’ career between his arrival in 1930 at Paris and his joining the surrealist group in 1934.. He remained involved with this group until 1951. The exhibition includes also late works from the ‘60s, but also photos and letters of Herold to his surrealist friends.
Herold has a special bond with the city of Marsilia: in 1940 with other intellectual fellows, he leaves to the South of France hoping to obtain a visa for the United States. He lives there in a community of artists formed around Andre Breton at the Air-Bel Vila outside the city, and along with Breton, Max Ernst, Victor Brauner and others, creates Jeu de Marseille, a surrealist form of the famous Tarot of Marsilia. Herold is responsible for two of the books from the set, the ones dedicated to Lamiel, the hero of the last novel, unfinished of Stendhal and De Sade.
The artist had a special interest for the divine marquise, visiting in 1942 Lacoste, De Sade’s castle from Vaucluse; after the war he bought a house there, to which he returned every summer. Some of the works realised in this period are included in the Cantini exhibition.
He didn’t manage to obtain the United States visa and so he stood in Marsilia until 1943, when he was forced to leave after the arrival of the germans, who started to have a frightening interest in his jewish roots. More informations and a detailed biography you can find on the official Herold website.
The exhibition can be visited until 17th of January at the Cantini Museum in Marsilia.
